*1. I presented the hand-held glass salt shaker containing the 1/2 Q-tip (that had been double freezer quality ziplock bagged for18 hours) to Boon with observing her reaction foremost in mind. The day before I had presented this odor and it was too potent and she found it aversive. I checked the intensity of odor before presenting it today and found the odor to be greatly diminished.
I presented the salt shaker containing the 1/2 Q-tip and got a slightly tentative response that included a brief nose touch. I clicked and treated and offered the salt shaker 9 more times in various positions, reinforcing each brief nose touch to neutralize any memory of the odor as aversive.
Two touches were tentative and each approach to touch grew in intensity after that and all hesitation disappeared within a few touches.
TIDBIT: Boon seems to have a pocket in her throat that causes treats no matter shape size or moisture content to periodically catch in her throat. She swallows and then chokes, sometimes immediately other times after several treats. Rarely does this cause her to lose interest in the task at hand. However I will occasionally abort a trial if it becomes a nuisance to either of us.
