VIDEOS/COMMENTS:

*1  It is fun to watch Boon's tail.  When she is certain of her find it swings wider from side to side.

*2  Notice the amount of air sniffing Boon does.  I began using super smelly treats in this set of three trials and she has to decide to return to the target scent.  Also, I think it distracts Boon more to come to me between finds for her reinforcer.  I don't notice this right away because I am too concerned with keeping my bathing suit cover-up closed around my body.  Trainer error, dress appropriately to not distract yourself!

*3 I used new extra smelly treats and handled the shakers between sets when changing cans without washing my hands first.  This MAY be the cause of the two false finds or not.

*4  Less smelly treats, trainer is dressed, dog more focused, finds more focused.  Correlation?

*5  OOOPS!!  Boon steps on the turntable and frightens herself.  She likes the scent work well enough to work through her little scare and continue. On the first find after the bobble I treat her near the target scent on the wheel just above the can it is in.  This is to reward her and say again YES the wheel is a good thing!   Then next I do challenge her to touch the scent target twice and then hold for just a second hoping ( getting the result I was hoping for) to reinforce confidence.  Within a few finds she is confidently targeting and holding her find behavior.   Some trainers wisely place the turn table on a stool to prevent the dog from stepping on it.  Boon self corrected and decided going around as she had been doing in the past was the better solution for her to play this game.

*6  A little residual concern displays through scratching and extra checking in with the trainer but Boon successfully works through her earlier fright and makes all her finds.
